Valerie after her interview.
Our California adventure began thursday night and met Leah’s Step-Grandfather, Barry, who was waiting outside the airport. After visiting with Barry and his wife Bev, we prepped for Friday’s two interviews. Friday morning, we had breakfast with Barry, and then he was sweet enough to drive us…
We’re getting closer to our goal everyday. Help us tell this important story. Please.
As a senior preparing for graduation, my friend and I have begun working on a wonderful senior project. Through a class we took together at the University of Washington in Seattle, we were exposed to a grassroots, self-defense organization called Home Alive. The organization was founded by nine women in response to the brutal rape and murder of Mia Zapata. To some she was a friend, a mentor, and to others she was the lead singer of the influence punk band The Gits. Home Alive began in 1993 and experienced many changes: from becoming a non-profit to gaining international attention with a CD, and finally relinquishing their non-profit status in 2010.In order to properly tell this story, we need to conduct interviews that require out of state travel. We also need the funds for film festival submissions and any unforeseen equipment costs. To do our fundraising we are using a website the helps fund arts projects called Kickstarter. The link below takes you directly to our page where you can learn more about our project and donate (if you are so inspired) :
