BAND OF THE WEEK
THE GITS
I know I said this week I may do Japan. I changed my mind! I was going to save this one but decided fuck it. The Gits are one of my favorite bands of all time. Top 5 by far.
Anyways… The Gits are, sadly, known more for the terrible crime that happen to their singer, Mia Zapata, than anything else. Sadly that always will cast a shadow over the band.
I’ve always had trouble listening to Spear and Magic helmet and Sign of the Crab le sigh.
Finally there was good news and the piece of shit was arrested and convicted. Sub human trash.
Anyways, Mia was one of the greatest singers to ever live. The raw emotional power of Mia’s voice is incredible. The band’s raw, aggressive music over Mia’s voice was something to behold. They should’ve been huge rock stars. They were so amazing.
Second Skin is one of the greatest songs ever written. If someone claims to not like Second Skin I either don’t believe them or want nothing to do with them.
It’s hard for me to put, into words, my love for this band. It makes me sad that only Steve does music anymore. I actually enjoyed the Pinkos!
Favorite Song: Second Skin

- Another Shot of Whiskey
- Bob
- Guilt Within Your Head
- Kings & Queens

This is the trailer for “The Gits” documentary.
It’s mostly about Mia Zapata, the lead-singer of this up-and coming band from the late 80s and early 90s. Honestly, one of the most heart-breaking stories any band could go through. But as a fan and having in some contact with with the drummer Steve throughout the years, I’ve come to realize and appreciate the sincerity and kindness of this group of individuals.
Mia Zapata stuck out as a sore thumb and her energy was and still is brilliant. If I could ever go back in time and see a band play, the Gits would most definitely be on the top of the list. If Mia hadn’t died, this band would’ve been punk/rock-n-roll royalty by now, but in my heart, they always have been.
